World TV Channels

ABC

ABC is a general TV channel from United States, owned by The Walt Disney Company, broadcasting since 1948.

Overview

ABC (the American Broadcasting Company) is one of the major commercial broadcast television networks in the United States. It launched as a television network in 1948, having originated from a radio network that was spun off from NBC. ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Company.

History

ABC began as the youngest of the traditional American networks and spent decades competing with the larger CBS and NBC. It rose to prominence through innovative programming and sports coverage, and its acquisition by Disney in 1996 gave it the backing of one of the world’s largest media companies.

In the streaming age, ABC programming is widely available on demand through Hulu and Disney+, both owned by Disney.

Programming

ABC is known for popular primetime dramas, comedies and reality formats, as well as daytime programming. Its news division, ABC News, produces flagship programmes including the morning show Good Morning America and the long-running newsmagazine 20/20. ABC also holds major sports rights and broadcasts high-profile live events and awards ceremonies.

Significance

As one of the “Big Three” US broadcast networks, ABC remains a cornerstone of American television. Combined with the resources of Disney, it reaches audiences across broadcast and streaming platforms nationwide.
